April 11, 2013 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 3972 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2984 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2382 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage gain per share Thursday and low price friction (bullish). This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices rose faster with less Friction. Metalico Inc (AMEX:MEA), Coldwater Creek Inc (NASDAQ:CWTR), Rite Aid Corp (NYSE:RAD), ACADIA Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:ACAD), Wireless Ronin Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:RNIN), MGT Capital Investments Inc (AMEX:MGT). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  MEA $0.250 17.48% 374,118 40.32% 345,241 37.21% 28,877 1,155
  CWTR $0.540 16.36% 123,545 63.95% 69,641 36.05% 53,904 998
  RAD $0.330 18.44% 27,079,177 41.24% 22,476,961 34.23% 4,602,216 139,461
  ACAD $4.920 61.73% 20,178,474 50.53% 19,373,514 48.52% 804,960 1,636
  RNIN $0.200 14.46% 541,261 54.22% 456,850 45.76% 84,411 4,221
  MGT $0.470 13.51% 313,681 30.13% 300,026 28.82% 13,655 291
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net buy volumes (buy volume, sell volume) and low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows MEA with a dollar gain Thursday of $0.25000 and a Friction Factor of 1,155 shares. That means that it only took 1,155 more shares of buying than selling to move MEA higher by one penny. The Market Makers are currently allowing the stock to rise quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and positive market direction can drive prices higher much faster than normal.
