March 4, 2013 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Monday there were 4033 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2586 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2840 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Monday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. SELECT COMFORT CORPORATION (NASDAQ:SCSS), ATLANTIC POWER CORP (NYSE:AT), GMX Resources Inc (NYSE:GMXR), Wireless Ronin Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:RNIN), iShares MSCI EAFE Index (CAD-Hedged) (NYSE:XIN), DRAGONWAVE INC (NASDAQ:DRWI). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  SCSS $-3.240 -15.80% 4,116,310 49.75% 4,118,787 49.78% -2,477 -8
  AT $-1.210 -16.99% 3,038,753 33.61% 3,168,671 35.05% -129,918 -1,074
  GMXR $-0.570 -18.39% 584,709 35.39% 589,263 35.67% -4,554 -80
  RNIN $-0.450 -14.15% 245,685 46.23% 285,719 53.77% -40,034 -890
  XIN $-0.860 -14.58% 1,245,158 30.75% 1,657,844 40.95% -412,686 -4,799
  DRWI $-0.660 -27.62% 704,014 45.08% 799,572 51.20% -95,558 -1,448
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows SCSS with a dollar loss Monday of $-3.24000 and a Friction Factor of -8 shares. That means that it only took 8 more shares of selling than buying to move SCSS lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
