Market Maker Surveillance Report. DVAX, ESI, FRO, GMXR, GGS, SVXY, Losing Stocks With Lowest Price Friction For Monday, Februa
February 25, 2013 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Monday there were 3487 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1527 companies with positive Friction Factors and 4506 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Monday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Dynavax Technologies Corp (NASDAQ:DVAX), ITT EDUCATIONAL SERVICES INC (NYSE:ESI), FRONTLINE LTD (NYSE:FRO), GMX Resources Inc (NYSE:GMXR), Global Geophysical Services Inc (NYSE:GGS), ProShares Short VIX Short-Term Futures ETF (NYSE:SVXY). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction DVAX $-1.020 -34.34% 10,839,650 49.25% 11,152,976 50.68% -313,326 -3,072 ESI $-3.100 -16.64% 463,126 26.54% 571,422 32.75% -108,296 -349 FRO $-0.460 -18.33% 1,101,981 35.94% 1,172,644 38.24% -70,663 -1,536 GMXR $-0.540 -21.60% 280,806 31.30% 338,557 37.74% -57,751 -1,069 GGS $-1.470 -33.79% 465,024 32.07% 578,440 39.90% -113,416 -772 SVXY $-13.640 -15.57% 262,931 15.77% 294,588 17.67% -31,657 -23Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows DVAX with a dollar loss Monday of $-1.02000 and a Friction Factor of -3,072 shares. That means that it only took 3,072 more shares of selling than buying to move DVAX lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
