February 4, 2013 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Monday there were 3940 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1596 companies with positive Friction Factors and 4014 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Monday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Viad Corp (NYSE:VVI), Synacor Inc (NASDAQ:SYNC), Moodys Corp (NYSE:MCO), Kimball International Inc (NASDAQ:KBALB), Changyou.com Ltd (NASDAQ:CYOU), JBI INC (OTC:JBII). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction VVI $-2.900 -10.29% 127,566 30.33% 136,336 32.42% -8,770 -30 SYNC $-0.780 -13.15% 456,808 41.22% 651,399 58.78% -194,591 -2,495 MCO $-5.850 -10.57% 3,375,436 29.69% 3,391,720 29.83% -16,284 -28 KBALB $-1.460 -13.54% 149,173 44.88% 181,272 54.54% -32,099 -220 CYOU $-3.110 -9.94% 434,779 43.55% 530,489 53.14% -95,710 -308 JBII $-0.140 -10.61% 63,205 18.39% 245,659 71.48% -182,454 -13,032Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows VVI with a dollar loss Monday of $-2.90000 and a Friction Factor of -30 shares. That means that it only took 30 more shares of selling than buying to move VVI lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
