January 28, 2013 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Monday there were 3940 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2696 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3035 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage gain per share Monday and low price friction (bullish). This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices rose faster with less Friction. Canadian Tire Corp Ltd (NYSE:CTC), RadioShack Corp (NYSE:RSH), Keryx Biopharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:KERX), MusclePharm Corp (OTC:MSLP), Furiex Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:FURX), Ventrus Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:VTUS). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction CTC $0.540 0.18% 44,624 36.49% 36,318 29.70% 8,306 154 RSH $0.580 0.22% 5,895,653 41.76% 4,846,494 34.33% 1,049,159 18,089 KERX $2.730 0.80% 35,642,150 52.92% 30,972,204 45.99% 4,669,946 17,106 MSLP $1.130 0.28% 43,292 18.04% 35,371 14.74% 7,921 70 FURX $14.150 0.67% 719,327 52.90% 625,533 46.00% 93,794 66 VTUS $0.500 0.23% 128,554 50.77% 124,631 49.23% 3,923 78Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net buy volumes (buy volume, sell volume) and low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows CTC with a dollar gain Monday of $0.54000 and a Friction Factor of 154 shares. That means that it only took 154 more shares of buying than selling to move CTC higher by one penny. The Market Makers are currently allowing the stock to rise quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and positive market direction can drive prices higher much faster than normal.
