January 23, 2013 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 4107 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2545 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2780 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Wednesday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Tata Motors Ltd (NYSE:TTM), Molycorp Inc (NYSE:MCP), Numerex Corp (NASDAQ:NMRX), Bank of Ireland (NYSE:IRE), Coach Inc (NYSE:COH), Pacific Biosciences of California Inc (NASDAQ:PACB). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  TTM $-2.950 -0.10% 2,160,352 30.94% 2,467,249 35.34% -306,897 -1,040
  MCP $-0.980 -0.11% 5,829,060 37.35% 6,248,294 40.04% -419,234 -4,278
  NMRX $-1.780 -0.13% 565,495 49.41% 577,359 50.44% -11,864 -67
  IRE $-0.920 -0.10% 831,946 27.66% 1,196,973 39.79% -365,027 -3,968
  COH $-9.930 -0.16% 16,482,178 32.39% 17,738,871 34.86% -1,256,693 -1,266
  PACB $-0.420 -0.14% 281,084 37.20% 474,490 62.80% -193,406 -4,605
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows TTM with a dollar loss Wednesday of $-2.95000 and a Friction Factor of -1,040 shares. That means that it only took 1,040 more shares of selling than buying to move TTM lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
