January 11, 2013 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 3992 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2713 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2542 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Friday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. ArQule Inc (NASDAQ:ARQL), FARO Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:FARO), Parametric Sound Corp (NASDAQ:PAMT), NewLead Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:NEWL), Li & Fung Ltd (OTC:LFUGY), (NYSE:DGAZ). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  ARQL $-0.360 -12.33% 1,618,875 47.34% 1,800,992 52.66% -182,117 -5,059
  FARO $-3.990 -11.16% 218,718 46.32% 243,751 51.62% -25,033 -63
  PAMT $-0.920 -10.62% 55,585 37.53% 91,939 62.07% -36,354 -395
  NEWL $-0.770 -41.18% 2,039,143 42.91% 2,591,386 54.53% -552,243 -7,172
  LFUGY $-0.520 -14.21% 281,625 43.29% 460,665 70.82% -179,040 -3,443
  DGAZ $-2.990 -12.71% 107,861 29.14% 160,851 43.45% -52,990 -177
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows ARQL with a dollar loss Friday of $-0.36000 and a Friction Factor of -5,059 shares. That means that it only took 5,059 more shares of selling than buying to move ARQL lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
