January 9, 2013 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 3947 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3332 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2031 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Wednesday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Telik Inc (NASDAQ:TELK), magicJack Vocaltec Ltd (NASDAQ:CALL), Peregrine Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:PPHM), Pokertek Inc (NASDAQ:PTEK), Douglas Dynamics Inc (NYSE:PLOW), (NYSE:UGAZ). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  TELK $-0.140 -8.54% 40,814 37.44% 68,187 62.56% -27,373 -1,955
  CALL $-2.010 -11.61% 907,101 48.75% 936,457 50.33% -29,356 -146
  PPHM $-0.270 -11.59% 5,278,112 45.90% 6,216,999 54.07% -938,887 -34,774
  PTEK $-0.210 -15.40% 48,669 25.29% 143,784 74.71% -95,115 -4,529
  PLOW $-1.190 -8.42% 106,844 26.95% 112,437 28.37% -5,593 -47
  UGAZ $-1.870 -9.69% 324,096 27.15% 476,227 39.90% -152,131 -814
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows TELK with a dollar loss Wednesday of $-0.14000 and a Friction Factor of -1,955 shares. That means that it only took 1,955 more shares of selling than buying to move TELK lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
