January 8, 2013 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 3949 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2552 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2778 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. Merck & Co Inc (NYSE:MRK), Chimera Investment Corp (NYSE:CIM), ABBOTT LABORATORIES (NYSE:ABT), Hewlett-Packard Co (NYSE:HPQ), Clearwire Corp (NASDAQ:CLWR), Alliqua Inc (OTC:ALQA). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  MRK $0.060 0.15% 2,872,287 19.70% 5,685,251 38.99% -2,812,964 Abnormal
  CIM $0.040 1.46% 5,518,362 28.55% 8,403,876 43.49% -2,885,514 Abnormal
  ABT $0.010 0.03% 3,529,811 23.76% 5,569,687 37.49% -2,039,876 Abnormal
  HPQ $0.040 0.26% 10,434,206 31.78% 12,646,465 38.52% -2,212,259 Abnormal
  CLWR $0.020 0.69% 3,550,588 39.64% 5,406,315 60.36% -1,855,727 Abnormal
  ALQA $0.011 24.44% 1,009,382 18.75% 4,375,321 81.25% -3,365,939 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Tuesday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows MRK with 2,812,964 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.06000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
