December 21, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 4158 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2002 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3683 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. Sierra Pacific Resources Pies (NYSE:SRC), U.S. Bancorp (NYSE:USB), Meredith Corp (NYSE:MDP), Inergy LP (NYSE:NRGY), Abiomed Inc (NASDAQ:ABMD), PEGASUS PHARMACEUTICALS INC (OTC:PGUZ). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  SRC $0.270 1.60% 509,273 10.91% 3,323,159 71.22% -2,813,886 Abnormal
  USB $0.040 0.12% 4,195,020 20.36% 8,016,503 38.91% -3,821,483 Abnormal
  MDP $0.010 0.03% 547,587 7.62% 5,497,485 76.47% -4,949,898 Abnormal
  NRGY $0.190 1.10% 589,810 13.22% 3,234,764 72.49% -2,644,954 Abnormal
  ABMD $0.040 0.27% 1,171,099 24.33% 3,562,210 74.01% -2,391,111 Abnormal
  PGUZ $0.020 200.00% 778,650 17.51% 3,668,650 82.49% -2,890,000 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Friday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows SRC with 2,813,886 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.27000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
