December 13, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 3926 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2066 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3800 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. STILLWATER MINING COMPANY (NYSE:SWC), Foot Locker Inc (NYSE:FL), Micron Technology Inc (NASDAQ:MU), NiSource Inc (NYSE:NI), Virgin Media Inc (NASDAQ:VMED), COBALT INTERNATIONAL ENERGY, INCORPORATION (NYSE:CIE). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  SWC $-0.210 -1.72% 11,743,886 76.08% 1,742,984 11.29% 10,000,902 Abnormal
  FL $-0.810 -2.43% 2,007,176 50.59% 750,868 18.92% 1,256,308 Abnormal
  MU $-0.050 -0.72% 12,856,005 53.71% 10,959,885 45.78% 1,896,120 Abnormal
  NI $-0.170 -0.68% 2,413,804 58.70% 786,516 19.13% 1,627,288 Abnormal
  VMED $-0.280 -0.78% 3,149,139 62.20% 2,030,822 40.11% 1,118,317 Abnormal
  CIE $-0.410 -1.61% 2,264,288 50.55% 981,786 21.92% 1,282,502 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Thursday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows SWC with 10,000,902 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.21000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
