December 7, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 4132 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2646 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2703 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Friday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Corcept Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:CORT), China Housing & Land Development Inc (NASDAQ:CHLN), Metabolix Inc (NASDAQ:MBLX), SMITH & WESSON HOLDING CORPORATION (NASDAQ:SWHC), Essex Rental Corp (NASDAQ:ESSX), (NYSE:UGAZ). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  CORT $-0.210 -11.73% 602,497 44.00% 766,829 56.00% -164,332 -7,825
  CHLN $-0.100 -8.55% 97,215 27.78% 252,671 72.22% -155,456 -15,546
  MBLX $-0.360 -16.67% 348,096 43.68% 448,837 56.32% -100,741 -2,798
  SWHC $-0.980 -9.03% 6,186,064 46.58% 7,078,309 53.29% -892,245 -9,105
  ESSX $-0.340 -9.86% 43,349 45.04% 52,889 54.96% -9,540 -281
  UGAZ $-2.290 -7.80% 126,037 26.08% 176,162 36.45% -50,125 -219
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows CORT with a dollar loss Friday of $-0.21000 and a Friction Factor of -7,825 shares. That means that it only took 7,825 more shares of selling than buying to move CORT lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
