December 4, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 4162 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2503 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2920 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Tuesday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Geron Corp (NASDAQ:GERN), Peregrine Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:PPHM), Oxford Industries Inc (NYSE:OXM), Net 1 UEPS Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:UEPS), Diagnocure Inc (AMEX:CUR), Mattress Firm Holding Corp (NASDAQ:MFRM). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction GERN $-0.340 -22.97% 2,931,437 48.37% 3,088,847 50.97% -157,410 -4,630 PPHM $-0.170 -11.56% 3,647,016 40.66% 5,312,019 59.23% -1,665,003 -97,941 OXM $-6.420 -11.58% 52,596 22.16% 56,164 23.67% -3,568 -6 UEPS $-4.620 -58.93% 5,568,398 46.86% 6,292,854 52.96% -724,456 -1,568 CUR $-0.310 -20.81% 1,989,783 27.76% 2,761,504 38.53% -771,721 -24,894 MFRM $-4.880 -16.90% 482,926 48.83% 500,889 50.65% -17,963 -37Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows GERN with a dollar loss Tuesday of $-0.34000 and a Friction Factor of -4,630 shares. That means that it only took 4,630 more shares of selling than buying to move GERN lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
