November 9, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 4060 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2411 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2988 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Friday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. James River Coal Co (NASDAQ:JRCC), Overseas Shipholding Group Inc (NYSE:OSG), DTS, INC. (NASDAQ:DTSI), Adept Technology Inc (NASDAQ:ADEP), Groupon Inc (NASDAQ:GRPN), Roundy's Inc (NYSE:RNDY). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  JRCC $-0.730 -21.73% 2,575,308 44.95% 3,154,083 55.05% -578,775 -7,928
  OSG $-0.320 -22.22% 410,309 33.24% 444,063 35.97% -33,754 -1,055
  DTSI $-5.820 -28.23% 617,806 36.48% 1,059,669 62.56% -441,863 -759
  ADEP $-0.960 -24.12% 54,061 38.27% 82,686 58.54% -28,625 -298
  GRPN $-1.130 -28.83% 46,454,144 39.98% 68,550,050 59.00% -22,095,906 -195,539
  RNDY $-1.140 -21.39% 846,972 28.28% 1,029,050 34.36% -182,078 -1,597
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows JRCC with a dollar loss Friday of $-0.73000 and a Friction Factor of -7,928 shares. That means that it only took 7,928 more shares of selling than buying to move JRCC lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
