October 26, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 4020 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2200 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3057 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. Sirius XM Radio Inc (NASDAQ:SIRI), Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc (NYSE:FCX), WELLS FARGO & COMPANY (NYSE:WFC), Standard Pacific Corp (NYSE:SPF), Vale SA (NYSE:VALE), Quantum Corp (NYSE:QTM). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction SIRI $-0.030 -1.05% 43,598,073 59.62% 29,467,590 40.30% 14,130,483 Abnormal FCX $-0.120 -0.31% 4,152,845 38.90% 2,007,687 18.81% 2,145,158 Abnormal WFC $-0.130 -0.39% 8,350,388 36.78% 5,440,472 23.96% 2,909,916 Abnormal SPF $-0.870 -11.19% 6,667,793 44.36% 4,454,226 29.63% 2,213,567 Abnormal VALE $-0.060 -0.33% 10,154,030 44.09% 4,844,282 21.03% 5,309,748 Abnormal QTM $-0.050 -4.10% 10,276,633 64.87% 4,679,739 29.54% 5,596,894 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Friday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows SIRI with 14,130,483 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.03000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
