October 23, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 4014 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1481 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3616 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. Nokia Oyj (NYSE:NOK), SUPERVALU Inc (NYSE:SVU), Southwest Airlines Co (NYSE:LUV), Hewlett-Packard Co (NYSE:HPQ), LIBERTY INTERACTIVE CORPORATION (NASDAQ:LINTA), Powershares Qqq Trust Series 1 (NASDAQ:QQQ). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  NOK $-0.130 -4.63% 22,927,934 36.55% 20,994,783 33.47% 1,933,151 Abnormal
  SVU $-0.320 -10.09% 6,164,954 45.74% 3,648,687 27.07% 2,516,267 Abnormal
  LUV $-0.050 -0.56% 3,793,727 36.00% 2,158,222 20.48% 1,635,505 Abnormal
  HPQ $-0.410 -2.79% 6,574,862 34.55% 4,776,384 25.10% 1,798,478 Abnormal
  LINTA $-0.130 -0.63% 4,477,697 77.33% 1,307,897 22.59% 3,169,800 Abnormal
  QQQ $-0.490 -0.74% 30,576,211 58.14% 19,278,740 36.66% 11,297,471 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Tuesday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows NOK with 1,933,151 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.13000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
