Market Maker Surveillance Report. KERX, THQI, IRBT, LOCM, DVR, INVN, Losing Stocks With Lowest Price Friction For Tuesday, Oct
October 23, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 4014 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1481 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3616 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Tuesday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Keryx Biopharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:KERX), THQ Inc (NASDAQ:THQI), iRobot Corp (NASDAQ:IRBT), Local.com Corp (NASDAQ:LOCM), Cal Dive International Inc (NYSE:DVR), InvenSense Inc (NYSE:INVN). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction KERX $-0.270 -9.75% 1,248,654 42.46% 1,692,188 57.54% -443,534 -16,427 THQI $-0.260 -9.45% 36,144 30.61% 81,937 69.39% -45,793 -1,761 IRBT $-2.710 -11.93% 152,606 47.49% 163,753 50.96% -11,147 -41 LOCM $-0.290 -10.39% 73,197 33.65% 144,311 66.35% -71,114 -2,452 DVR $-0.180 -12.16% 655,642 34.99% 848,103 45.26% -192,461 -10,692 INVN $-2.170 -17.66% 639,626 35.57% 643,293 35.77% -3,667 -17Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows KERX with a dollar loss Tuesday of $-0.27000 and a Friction Factor of -16,427 shares. That means that it only took 16,427 more shares of selling than buying to move KERX lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
