October 19, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 3911 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1464 companies with positive Friction Factors and 4063 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Friday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Pixelworks Inc (NASDAQ:PXLW), Max & Erma's Restaurant (NASDAQ:MAXE), Computer Modelling Group Ltd (NYSE:CMG), Appalaches Resources Inc (AMEX:APP), BG Medicine Inc (NASDAQ:BGMD), VOC Energy Trust (NYSE:VOC). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  PXLW $-0.620 -20.33% 148,414 39.93% 223,276 60.07% -74,862 -1,207
  MAXE $-0.140 -12.07% 145,935 25.73% 270,932 47.76% -124,997 -8,928
  CMG $-42.950 -15.02% 1,935,378 30.65% 2,126,003 33.67% -190,625 -44
  APP $-0.220 -17.46% 738,922 22.25% 1,049,912 31.61% -310,990 -14,136
  BGMD $-0.480 -16.27% 55,271 8.74% 61,165 9.67% -5,894 -123
  VOC $-3.170 -16.42% 308,188 33.17% 335,086 36.06% -26,898 -85
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows PXLW with a dollar loss Friday of $-0.62000 and a Friction Factor of -1,207 shares. That means that it only took 1,207 more shares of selling than buying to move PXLW lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
