October 12, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 3780 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1957 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3263 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage gain per share Friday and low price friction (bullish). This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices rose faster with less Friction. BioFuel Energy Corp (NASDAQ:BIOF), NPS Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:NPSP), Sycamore Networks Inc (NASDAQ:SCMR), Aegerion Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:AEGR), Glu Mobile Inc (NASDAQ:GLUU), Inuvo Inc (AMEX:INUV). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  BIOF $0.830 13.13% 408,923 59.38% 277,301 40.27% 131,622 1,586
  NPSP $1.740 19.06% 6,125,833 51.74% 5,604,245 47.33% 521,588 2,998
  SCMR $0.530 11.35% 1,312,022 56.59% 1,008,772 43.51% 303,250 5,722
  AEGR $1.980 14.16% 507,546 51.19% 482,343 48.64% 25,203 127
  GLUU $0.480 16.61% 4,974,034 52.80% 4,445,143 47.18% 528,891 11,019
  INUV $0.300 33.33% 61,391 26.04% 55,598 23.58% 5,793 193
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net buy volumes (buy volume, sell volume) and low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows BIOF with a dollar gain Friday of $0.83000 and a Friction Factor of 1,586 shares. That means that it only took 1,586 more shares of buying than selling to move BIOF higher by one penny. The Market Makers are currently allowing the stock to rise quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and positive market direction can drive prices higher much faster than normal.
