Market Maker Surveillance Report. GERN, MRCY, CACH, PBM, LIVE, VRNG, Losing Stocks With Lowest Price Friction For Friday, Octo
October 5, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 4114 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2686 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2640 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Friday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Geron Corp (NASDAQ:GERN), Mercury Computer Systems Inc (NASDAQ:MRCY), Cache Inc (NASDAQ:CACH), PACIFIC BOOKER MINERALS INC (AMEX:PBM), LiveDeal Inc (NASDAQ:LIVE), Vringo Inc (AMEX:VRNG). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction GERN $-0.180 -11.32% 733,572 43.53% 922,046 54.72% -188,474 -10,471 MRCY $-1.800 -18.62% 703,719 46.82% 779,601 51.87% -75,882 -422 CACH $-0.510 -15.69% 122,359 37.77% 183,072 56.51% -60,713 -1,190 PBM $-0.960 -23.70% 92,320 23.04% 145,577 36.33% -53,257 -555 LIVE $-1.010 -19.17% 32,748 38.04% 53,033 61.61% -20,285 -201 VRNG $-0.650 -12.38% 8,190,611 34.58% 9,426,375 39.80% -1,235,764 -19,012Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows GERN with a dollar loss Friday of $-0.18000 and a Friction Factor of -10,471 shares. That means that it only took 10,471 more shares of selling than buying to move GERN lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
