September 28, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 4044 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2093 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3339 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Friday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Ascent Solar Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:ASTI), Ultrapetrol (Bahamas) Ltd (NASDAQ:ULTR), Life Partners Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:LPHI), Swift Transportation Co (NYSE:SWFT), LDK Solar Co Ltd (NYSE:LDK), Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction ASTI $-0.100 -8.77% 386,779 37.77% 637,308 62.23% -250,529 -25,053 ULTR $-0.210 -12.88% 71,576 33.81% 140,127 66.19% -68,551 -3,264 LPHI $-0.260 -8.78% 793,462 49.82% 794,215 49.87% -753 -29 SWFT $-1.250 -14.09% 370,835 27.84% 534,301 40.12% -163,466 -1,308 LDK $-0.120 -9.60% 708,852 29.65% 933,909 39.07% -225,057 -18,755 ENPH $-0.350 -7.65% 150,683 43.97% 192,038 56.03% -41,355 -1,182Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows ASTI with a dollar loss Friday of $-0.10000 and a Friction Factor of -25,053 shares. That means that it only took 25,053 more shares of selling than buying to move ASTI lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
