September 11, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 4094 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3310 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2173 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Tuesday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Pure Bioscience (NASDAQ:PURE), Central Garden & Pet Co (NASDAQ:CENTA), K12 Inc (NYSE:LRN), Complete Genomics Inc (NASDAQ:GNOM), ProShares UltraShort DJ UBS Natural Gas ETF (NYSE:KOLD), (NYSE:DGAZ). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  PURE $-0.380 -21.71% 218,433 40.89% 315,535 59.07% -97,102 -2,555
  CENTA $-1.470 -11.40% 447,798 46.51% 496,810 51.60% -49,012 -333
  LRN $-3.150 -13.43% 655,192 31.40% 658,042 31.53% -2,850 -9
  GNOM $-0.350 -11.51% 829,431 45.47% 959,189 52.58% -129,758 -3,707
  KOLD $-2.990 -10.38% 63,215 27.69% 67,471 29.55% -4,256 -14
  DGAZ $-4.770 -17.58% 128,639 28.33% 187,079 41.19% -58,440 -123
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows PURE with a dollar loss Tuesday of $-0.38000 and a Friction Factor of -2,555 shares. That means that it only took 2,555 more shares of selling than buying to move PURE lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
