Market Maker Surveillance Report. DAL, SYMC, JNS, LUV, WFC, TSM, Bullishly Biased Price Friction For Tuesday, August 21st 2012
August 21, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 4246 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2504 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2821 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. DELTA AIR LINES INC (NYSE:DAL), Symantec Corp (NASDAQ:SYMC), Janus Capital Group Inc (NYSE:JNS), Southwest Airlines Co (NYSE:LUV), WELLS FARGO & COMPANY (NYSE:WFC), Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd (NYSE:TSM). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction DAL $0.240 2.53% 6,447,464 26.98% 7,912,622 33.11% -1,465,158 Abnormal SYMC $0.120 0.67% 4,896,010 37.84% 6,763,618 52.28% -1,867,608 Abnormal JNS $0.160 1.85% 1,812,622 21.95% 3,620,980 43.85% -1,808,358 Abnormal LUV $0.020 0.21% 3,445,977 24.88% 6,590,690 47.59% -3,144,713 Abnormal WFC $0.320 0.94% 7,293,492 28.86% 8,475,292 33.54% -1,181,800 Abnormal TSM $0.110 0.74% 3,397,028 23.84% 5,779,608 40.55% -2,382,580 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Tuesday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows DAL with 1,465,158 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.24000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
