Market Maker Surveillance Report. OTT, VLCCF, MCP, A, CTRN, AMCF, Losing Stocks With Lowest Price Friction For Thursday, Augus
August 16, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 3940 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3779 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1776 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Thursday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Otelco Inc (NASDAQ:OTT), Knightsbridge Tankers Ltd (NASDAQ:VLCCF), Molycorp Inc (NYSE:MCP), Agilent Technologies Inc (NYSE:A), Citi Trends Inc (NASDAQ:CTRN), Andatee China Marine Fuel Services Corp (NASDAQ:AMCF). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction OTT $-0.490 -19.14% 371,263 41.47% 523,954 58.53% -152,691 -3,116 VLCCF $-0.700 -9.03% 351,201 42.77% 467,310 56.90% -116,109 -1,659 MCP $-1.270 -10.53% 3,305,315 31.67% 3,523,492 33.76% -218,177 -1,718 A $-3.450 -8.52% 3,333,985 26.06% 3,931,413 30.73% -597,428 -1,732 CTRN $-0.970 -7.74% 202,539 47.85% 213,224 50.37% -10,685 -110 AMCF $-0.470 -28.83% 53,042 41.34% 62,276 48.53% -9,234 -196Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows OTT with a dollar loss Thursday of $-0.49000 and a Friction Factor of -3,116 shares. That means that it only took 3,116 more shares of selling than buying to move OTT lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
