August 16, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 3940 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3779 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1776 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage gain per share Thursday and low price friction (bullish). This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices rose faster with less Friction. Blyth Inc (NYSE:BTH), Geron Corp (NASDAQ:GERN), CompuCredit Holdings Corp (NASDAQ:CCRT), BioMimetic Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:BMTI), Venoco Inc (NYSE:VQ), Airmedia Group Inc (NASDAQ:AMCN). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  BTH $6.270 16.90% 421,691 27.09% 402,182 25.84% 19,509 31
  GERN $0.330 19.30% 1,686,960 52.46% 1,522,732 47.35% 164,228 4,977
  CCRT $1.630 32.47% 714,083 53.48% 612,068 45.84% 102,015 626
  BMTI $0.530 15.23% 279,630 63.58% 155,944 35.46% 123,686 2,334
  VQ $1.420 14.90% 1,649,889 36.51% 1,404,193 31.07% 245,696 1,730
  AMCN $0.490 25.79% 49,465 65.97% 25,517 34.03% 23,948 489
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net buy volumes (buy volume, sell volume) and low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows BTH with a dollar gain Thursday of $6.27000 and a Friction Factor of 31 shares. That means that it only took 31 more shares of buying than selling to move BTH higher by one penny. The Market Makers are currently allowing the stock to rise quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and positive market direction can drive prices higher much faster than normal.
