August 15, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 3956 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3226 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2095 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. MGIC Investment Corp (NYSE:MTG), AT&T Inc (NYSE:T), ON Semiconductor Corp (NASDAQ:ONNN), Staples Inc (NASDAQ:SPLS), A123 Systems Inc (NASDAQ:AONE), Lone Pine Resources Inc (NYSE:LPR). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  MTG $-0.070 -5.34% 2,280,083 39.52% 1,408,287 24.41% 871,796 Abnormal
  T $-0.160 -0.42% 8,038,627 38.20% 6,079,388 28.89% 1,959,239 Abnormal
  ONNN $-0.010 -0.15% 9,556,637 57.95% 6,684,866 40.54% 2,871,771 Abnormal
  SPLS $-1.900 -14.16% 51,824,937 55.21% 40,981,564 43.66% 10,843,373 Abnormal
  AONE $-0.040 -7.02% 4,159,911 56.54% 3,197,260 43.46% 962,651 Abnormal
  LPR $-0.010 -0.75% 1,973,387 54.80% 923,353 25.64% 1,050,034 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Wednesday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows MTG with 871,796 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.07000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
