August 10, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 4111 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2750 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2791 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Friday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Brooks Automation Inc (NASDAQ:BRKS), Heska Corp (NASDAQ:HSKA), Acorn Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ACFN), Codexis Inc (NASDAQ:CDXS), Ubiquiti Networks Inc (NASDAQ:UBNT), (NYSE:UGAZ). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  BRKS $-1.140 -11.91% 527,865 47.56% 570,976 51.45% -43,111 -378
  HSKA $-1.590 -15.76% 53,672 47.12% 59,430 52.18% -5,758 -36
  ACFN $-0.850 -9.51% 161,670 46.42% 184,932 53.10% -23,262 -274
  CDXS $-0.550 -17.86% 396,472 39.34% 609,217 60.45% -212,745 -3,868
  UBNT $-6.280 -41.84% 3,656,581 47.94% 3,891,162 51.01% -234,581 -374
  UGAZ $-3.690 -12.73% 79,110 26.21% 121,564 40.28% -42,454 -115
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows BRKS with a dollar loss Friday of $-1.14000 and a Friction Factor of -378 shares. That means that it only took 378 more shares of selling than buying to move BRKS lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
