Market Maker Surveillance Report. HNT, SCOR, ZAGG, ATSG, MTSI, ZIP, Losing Stocks With Lowest Price Friction For Friday, Augus
August 3, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 3860 companies with "abnormal" market making, 4047 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1544 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Friday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Health Net Inc (NYSE:HNT), comScore Inc (NASDAQ:SCOR), Zagg Inc (NASDAQ:ZAGG), Air Transport Services Group Inc (NASDAQ:ATSG), M/A-COM Technology Solutions Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:MTSI), Zipcar Inc (NASDAQ:ZIP). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction HNT $-4.340 -19.12% 3,555,866 29.03% 3,694,974 30.16% -139,108 -321 SCOR $-3.370 -21.83% 924,064 43.54% 1,167,269 54.99% -243,205 -722 ZAGG $-2.230 -20.84% 1,808,911 46.75% 2,067,425 53.44% -258,514 -1,159 ATSG $-0.780 -16.13% 413,174 33.68% 813,601 66.32% -400,427 -5,134 MTSI $-3.480 -20.83% 357,873 46.81% 404,296 52.88% -46,423 -133 ZIP $-4.130 -38.85% 2,553,694 46.91% 2,794,713 51.34% -241,019 -584Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows HNT with a dollar loss Friday of $-4.34000 and a Friction Factor of -321 shares. That means that it only took 321 more shares of selling than buying to move HNT lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
