July 27, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 3485 companies with "abnormal" market making, 4404 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1463 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage gain per share Friday and low price friction (bullish). This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices rose faster with less Friction. Hampton Roads Bankshares Inc (NASDAQ:HMPR), Datawatch Corp (NASDAQ:DWCH), Medifast Inc (NYSE:MED), Silicon Motion Technology Corp (NASDAQ:SIMO), Meru Networks Inc (NASDAQ:MERU), OCZ Technology Group Inc (NASDAQ:OCZ). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  HMPR $0.420 23.08% 110,767 56.98% 84,036 43.23% 26,731 636
  DWCH $3.100 25.63% 139,315 55.92% 107,004 42.95% 32,311 104
  MED $5.460 26.47% 488,311 33.41% 434,603 29.74% 53,708 98
  SIMO $2.720 21.58% 1,848,161 53.11% 1,596,157 45.86% 252,004 926
  MERU $0.960 56.80% 866,940 51.53% 791,344 47.04% 75,596 787
  OCZ $1.660 30.51% 7,825,724 55.19% 5,930,565 41.82% 1,895,159 11,417
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net buy volumes (buy volume, sell volume) and low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows HMPR with a dollar gain Friday of $0.42000 and a Friction Factor of 636 shares. That means that it only took 636 more shares of buying than selling to move HMPR higher by one penny. The Market Makers are currently allowing the stock to rise quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and positive market direction can drive prices higher much faster than normal.
