July 26, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 4065 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3370 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1942 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the highest net sell volume on Thursday and lowest negative price Friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Advanced Semiconductor Engineering Inc (NYSE:ASX), United Community Banks Inc (NASDAQ:UCBI), Health Management Associates Inc (NYSE:HMA), Chimera Investment Corp (NYSE:CIM), Best Buy Co Inc (NYSE:BBY), VisionChina Media Inc (NASDAQ:VISN). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction ASX $-0.030 -0.82% 1,315,378 25.46% 2,776,735 53.75% -1,461,357 -487,119 UCBI $-1.130 -14.85% 212,838 14.18% 1,286,824 85.76% -1,073,986 -9,504 HMA $-0.180 -2.72% 2,563,123 28.87% 3,613,489 40.71% -1,050,366 -58,354 CIM $-0.180 -7.86% 11,843,850 26.78% 16,067,775 36.33% -4,223,925 -234,663 BBY $-0.110 -0.63% 3,321,971 30.41% 4,240,245 38.82% -918,274 -83,479 VISN $-0.080 -26.42% 810,432 25.23% 2,402,180 74.77% -1,591,748 -198,969Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have low price friction combined with more selling than buying (negative Net Volume) in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows ASX down $-0.03000 with a Friction Factor of -487,119 and a Net Volume of -1,461,357. That means that it takes 487,119 more shares of selling than buying to drop ASX by one penny. On Monday the Market Makers allowed the stock to move down on heavier selling than buying (low negative friction).
