July 25, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 4023 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2567 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2499 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Wednesday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Watsco Inc (NYSE:WSO), TESSCO Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:TESS), SUPERVALU Inc (NYSE:SVU), Synacor Inc (NASDAQ:SYNC), Dex One Corp (NYSE:DEXO), Questcor Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:QCOR). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction WSO $-9.220 -12.19% 501,537 27.46% 600,795 32.90% -99,258 -108 TESS $-2.780 -12.62% 41,053 45.75% 47,566 53.00% -6,513 -23 SVU $-0.330 -16.10% 6,473,301 33.65% 7,554,424 39.28% -1,081,123 -32,761 SYNC $-2.740 -21.59% 478,839 46.81% 526,312 51.45% -47,473 -173 DEXO $-0.150 -11.98% 297,061 32.78% 325,885 35.96% -28,824 -1,922 QCOR $-6.090 -13.65% 4,565,868 48.29% 4,690,137 49.60% -124,269 -204Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows WSO with a dollar loss Wednesday of $-9.22000 and a Friction Factor of -108 shares. That means that it only took 108 more shares of selling than buying to move WSO lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
