July 24, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 3685 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1465 companies with positive Friction Factors and 4109 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Tuesday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. CytRx Corp (NASDAQ:CYTR), TripAdvisor Inc (NASDAQ:TRIP), Volterra Semiconductor Corp (NASDAQ:VLTR), Bruker Corp (NASDAQ:BRKR), Boyd Gaming Corp (NYSE:BYD), VirnetX Holding Corp (AMEX:VHC). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  CYTR $-0.680 -15.35% 123,842 43.11% 160,707 55.95% -36,865 -542
  TRIP $-7.610 -16.68% 1,881,233 45.15% 2,171,136 52.11% -289,903 -381
  VLTR $-3.370 -13.38% 1,106,610 46.67% 1,240,428 52.31% -133,818 -397
  BRKR $-1.830 -13.70% 2,799,005 45.59% 3,175,194 51.72% -376,189 -2,056
  BYD $-1.190 -17.87% 2,335,524 31.23% 2,394,460 32.02% -58,936 -495
  VHC $-7.050 -20.64% 1,054,714 28.79% 1,212,442 33.09% -157,728 -224
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows CYTR with a dollar loss Tuesday of $-0.68000 and a Friction Factor of -542 shares. That means that it only took 542 more shares of selling than buying to move CYTR lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
