July 23, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Monday there were 3873 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1314 companies with positive Friction Factors and 4218 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. Chesapeake Energy Corp (NYSE:CHK), Nexen Inc (NYSE:NXY), J C Penney Company Inc (NYSE:JCP), AT&T Inc (NYSE:T), PulteGroup Inc (NYSE:PHM), Dean Foods Co (NYSE:DF). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  CHK $0.240 1.40% 4,598,148 27.08% 5,260,010 30.98% -661,862 Abnormal
  NXY $8.970 52.58% 39,180,281 27.80% 49,704,092 35.27% -10,523,811 Abnormal
  JCP $0.070 0.32% 2,354,401 27.13% 3,124,815 36.01% -770,414 Abnormal
  T $0.090 0.26% 7,364,620 27.14% 8,907,415 32.83% -1,542,795 Abnormal
  PHM $0.150 1.38% 4,162,509 29.55% 5,014,263 35.59% -851,754 Abnormal
  DF $0.470 3.87% 2,861,250 27.83% 3,480,484 33.85% -619,234 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Monday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows CHK with 661,862 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.24000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
