July 20, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 3731 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1720 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3740 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Friday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Synacor Inc (NASDAQ:SYNC), Builders Firstsource Inc (NASDAQ:BLDR), Computer Modelling Group Ltd (NYSE:CMG), Gold Resource Corp (AMEX:GORO), Elephant Talk Communications Inc (OTCBB:ETAK), Supernus Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:SUPN). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction SYNC $-1.760 -13.52% 1,165,333 43.58% 1,459,778 54.59% -294,445 -1,673 BLDR $-0.770 -15.78% 407,094 47.86% 442,018 51.97% -34,924 -454 CMG $-86.670 -21.46% 3,128,510 32.04% 3,141,742 32.18% -13,232 -2 GORO $-7.550 -29.94% 1,262,552 32.84% 1,337,925 34.80% -75,373 -100 ETAK $-0.230 -15.54% 151,993 24.83% 230,867 37.71% -78,874 -3,429 SUPN $-1.850 -12.45% 96,040 42.87% 126,453 56.45% -30,413 -164Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows SYNC with a dollar loss Friday of $-1.76000 and a Friction Factor of -1,673 shares. That means that it only took 1,673 more shares of selling than buying to move SYNC lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
