July 19, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 3854 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2765 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2506 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Thursday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Whiting USA Trust (NYSE:WHX), Mitek Systems Inc (NASDAQ:MITK), Overseas Shipholding Group Inc (NYSE:OSG), Sypris Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:SYPR), Synacor Inc (NASDAQ:SYNC), Diana Containerships Inc (NASDAQ:DCIX). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction WHX $-1.660 -15.50% 669,960 29.68% 748,994 33.18% -79,034 -476 MITK $-0.750 -19.48% 585,491 42.99% 772,881 56.74% -187,390 -2,499 OSG $-1.310 -16.75% 523,797 31.74% 634,674 38.46% -110,877 -846 SYPR $-0.940 -12.74% 55,686 38.46% 88,912 61.40% -33,226 -353 SYNC $-2.100 -14.00% 615,209 40.85% 856,963 56.90% -241,754 -1,151 DCIX $-1.050 -14.58% 2,272,458 49.48% 2,320,014 50.52% -47,556 -453Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows WHX with a dollar loss Thursday of $-1.66000 and a Friction Factor of -476 shares. That means that it only took 476 more shares of selling than buying to move WHX lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
