July 16, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Monday there were 3938 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2211 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3045 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Monday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc (NASDAQ:GMCR), Scientific Learning Corp (NASDAQ:SCIL), Allos Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ALTH), IsoRay Inc (AMEX:ISR), Amyris Inc (NASDAQ:AMRS), HACKETT GROUP INCORPORATION.(THE) (NASDAQ:HCKT). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  GMCR $-1.850 -9.39% 6,790,016 48.15% 7,274,359 51.58% -484,343 -2,618
  SCIL $-0.300 -21.90% 93,633 46.69% 105,295 52.51% -11,662 -389
  ALTH $-0.320 -17.88% 652,691 39.55% 996,699 60.40% -344,008 -10,750
  ISR $-0.240 -16.33% 1,655,733 30.98% 1,846,668 34.56% -190,935 -7,956
  AMRS $-0.370 -10.98% 393,674 47.10% 441,753 52.85% -48,079 -1,299
  HCKT $-0.510 -8.90% 36,406 35.31% 65,129 63.16% -28,723 -563
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows GMCR with a dollar loss Monday of $-1.85000 and a Friction Factor of -2,618 shares. That means that it only took 2,618 more shares of selling than buying to move GMCR lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
