July 10, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 3723 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1861 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3502 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. Windstream Corp (NASDAQ:WIN), Dell Inc (NASDAQ:DELL), Citigroup Inc (NYSE:C), RESEARCH IN MOTION (NASDAQ:RIMM), Arch Coal Inc (NYSE:ACI), Quantum Corp (NYSE:QTM). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  WIN $-0.030 -0.31% 3,583,209 62.69% 2,132,277 37.31% 1,450,932 Abnormal
  DELL $-0.010 -0.08% 12,784,090 62.03% 7,565,183 36.71% 5,218,907 Abnormal
  C $-0.240 -0.92% 9,184,822 33.83% 7,108,428 26.18% 2,076,394 Abnormal
  RIMM $-0.290 -3.76% 21,651,002 51.66% 20,089,986 47.94% 1,561,016 Abnormal
  ACI $-0.560 -8.40% 6,609,884 38.75% 4,827,101 28.30% 1,782,783 Abnormal
  QTM $-0.530 -25.24% 3,960,016 37.61% 2,725,517 25.89% 1,234,499 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Tuesday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows WIN with 1,450,932 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.03000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
