July 6, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 3698 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1660 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3663 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. Time Warner Inc (NYSE:TWX), HEALTH MGMT ASSOCIATES INC-A (NYSE:HMA), QUEST SOFTWARE INC (NASDAQ:QSFT), Sprint Nextel Corp (NYSE:S), Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:AMLN), P G & E CORP (NYSE:PCG). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction TWX $0.300 0.78% 1,254,273 21.95% 1,674,182 29.30% -419,909 Abnormal HMA $0.070 0.93% 1,241,869 22.04% 2,035,090 36.12% -793,221 Abnormal QSFT $0.050 0.18% 422,523 33.71% 830,478 66.26% -407,955 Abnormal S $0.010 0.30% 9,203,441 34.80% 11,960,034 45.23% -2,756,593 Abnormal AMLN $0.020 0.07% 3,427,630 40.76% 4,971,918 59.12% -1,544,288 Abnormal PCG $0.030 0.07% 373,841 19.30% 903,353 46.64% -529,512 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Friday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows TWX with 419,909 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.30000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
