July 5, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 4525 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2680 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2688 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Thursday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. MGIC INVESTMENT CORP (NYSE:MTG), TELIK INC (NASDAQ:TELK), FEIHE INTERNATIONAL INC (NYSE:ADY), Ambow Education Holding Ltd (NYSE:AMBO), AMYRIS INC (NASDAQ:AMRS), VERSO PAPER CORP (NYSE:VRS). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  MTG $-0.360 -11.69% 1,650,657 33.62% 2,115,245 43.09% -464,588 -12,905
  TELK $-0.230 -11.33% 31,299 46.15% 36,519 53.85% -5,220 -227
  ADY $-0.720 -10.43% 267,913 31.03% 300,717 34.82% -32,804 -456
  AMBO $-0.980 -20.81% 95,615 23.52% 122,236 30.06% -26,621 -272
  AMRS $-0.390 -9.73% 408,540 44.31% 511,423 55.47% -102,883 -2,638
  VRS $-0.230 -13.29% 116,775 27.47% 122,090 28.72% -5,315 -231
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows MTG with a dollar loss Thursday of $-0.36000 and a Friction Factor of -12,905 shares. That means that it only took 12,905 more shares of selling than buying to move MTG lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
