July 2, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Monday there were 3679 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3448 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1844 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. CHIMERA INVESTMENT CORP (NYSE:CIM), SPRINT NEXTEL CORP (NYSE:S), AMYLIN PHARMACEUTICALS, INC. (NASDAQ:AMLN), BRIGHTPOINT INC (NASDAQ:CELL), ARCH COAL INC (NYSE:ACI), Clearwire Corp (NASDAQ:CLWR). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  CIM $0.040 1.69% 3,802,968 32.13% 5,504,632 46.51% -1,701,664 Abnormal
  S $0.140 4.29% 24,259,477 31.17% 26,914,217 34.58% -2,654,740 Abnormal
  AMLN $2.500 8.88% 41,593,226 42.28% 56,371,437 57.30% -14,778,211 Abnormal
  CELL $3.420 63.29% 11,512,218 36.17% 20,278,852 63.72% -8,766,634 Abnormal
  ACI $0.200 2.90% 4,627,425 30.79% 6,248,398 41.58% -1,620,973 Abnormal
  CLWR $0.010 0.89% 3,377,390 40.80% 4,901,026 59.20% -1,523,636 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Monday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows CIM with 1,701,664 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.04000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
