June 28, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 3912 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2377 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3019 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage gain per share Thursday and low price friction (bullish). This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices rose faster with less Friction. MERGE HEALTHCARE INC (NASDAQ:MRGE), HMS HOLDINGS CORP (NASDAQ:HMSY), LINCARE HOLDINGS INC (NASDAQ:LNCR), SYNERGETICS USA, INC. (NASDAQ:SURG), UNI-PIXEL INC (NASDAQ:UNXL), OREXIGEN THERAPEUTICS INC (NASDAQ:OREX). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  MRGE $0.300 12.24% 473,455 53.44% 412,373 46.54% 61,082 2,036
  HMSY $3.960 14.25% 3,134,179 50.92% 2,908,202 47.25% 225,977 571
  LNCR $3.830 12.29% 5,290,806 49.00% 5,052,948 46.80% 237,858 621
  SURG $0.830 21.45% 1,172,126 53.35% 1,019,265 46.39% 152,861 1,842
  UNXL $1.130 20.55% 120,697 50.22% 116,215 48.36% 4,482 40
  OREX $0.840 17.07% 11,416,304 50.90% 10,927,674 48.73% 488,630 5,817
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net buy volumes (buy volume, sell volume) and low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows MRGE with a dollar gain Thursday of $0.30000 and a Friction Factor of 2,036 shares. That means that it only took 2,036 more shares of buying than selling to move MRGE higher by one penny. The Market Makers are currently allowing the stock to rise quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and positive market direction can drive prices higher much faster than normal.
