June 26, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 3802 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2713 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2659 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Tuesday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. MEDGENICS INC - UNRESTRICTED (OTCBB:MDGN), TELIK INC (NASDAQ:TELK), JAMES RIVER COAL CO (NASDAQ:JRCC), ATP OIL & GAS CORPORATION (NASDAQ:ATPG), MIDWAY GOLD CORP (AMEX:MDW), OMEROS CORP (NASDAQ:OMER). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  MDGN $-1.400 -11.78% 71,036 33.12% 87,445 40.77% -16,409 -117
  TELK $-0.600 -20.27% 537,234 49.57% 540,520 49.88% -3,286 -55
  JRCC $-0.440 -15.07% 1,659,950 46.98% 1,868,092 52.87% -208,142 -4,731
  ATPG $-0.460 -13.49% 2,521,227 44.66% 3,123,839 55.34% -602,612 -13,100
  MDW $-0.170 -12.23% 172,569 23.86% 242,469 33.53% -69,900 -4,112
  OMER $-2.470 -18.66% 46,371 43.57% 59,463 55.87% -13,092 -53
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows MDGN with a dollar loss Tuesday of $-1.40000 and a Friction Factor of -117 shares. That means that it only took 117 more shares of selling than buying to move MDGN lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
