June 22, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 3684 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3271 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2151 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Friday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Old Republic International Corp (NYSE:ORI), PHOTOMEDEX INC (NASDAQ:PHMD), ALASKA COMM SYSTEMS GROUP (NASDAQ:ALSK), ARENA PHARMACEUTICALS INC (NASDAQ:ARNA), DEX ONE CORP (NYSE:DEXO), FORUM NATIONAL INVESTMENTS LTD N (OTC:FMNL). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction ORI $-1.310 -12.43% 3,119,046 27.13% 3,680,118 32.02% -561,072 -4,283 PHMD $-1.120 -8.30% 386,636 22.91% 1,292,043 76.55% -905,407 -8,084 ALSK $-0.170 -8.10% 644,214 14.91% 3,574,166 82.74% -2,929,952 -172,350 ARNA $-1.730 -14.81% 40,713,242 48.80% 40,855,776 48.98% -142,534 -824 DEXO $-0.100 -10.18% 27,033 22.73% 45,642 38.38% -18,609 -1,861 FMNL $-0.179 -8.95% 48,836 27.11% 82,571 45.83% -33,735 -1,885Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows ORI with a dollar loss Friday of $-1.31000 and a Friction Factor of -4,283 shares. That means that it only took 4,283 more shares of selling than buying to move ORI lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
