Market Maker Surveillance Report. GE, MU, FITB, LUV, GPS, F, Bearishly Biased Price Friction For Thursday, June 21st 2012
June 21, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 3388 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1362 companies with positive Friction Factors and 4595 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. GENERAL ELECTRIC COMPANY (NYSE:GE), MICRON TECHNOLOGY INC (NASDAQ:MU), FIFTH THIRD BANCORP (NASDAQ:FITB), SOUTHWEST AIRLINES CO (NYSE:LUV), GAP, INCORPORATED (THE) (NYSE:GPS), Ford Motor Co (NYSE:F). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction GE $-0.550 -2.74% 19,381,179 32.07% 16,938,214 28.03% 2,442,965 Abnormal MU $-0.450 -7.35% 26,265,474 51.52% 24,713,812 48.48% 1,551,662 Abnormal FITB $-0.080 -0.61% 9,845,297 56.72% 7,461,336 42.98% 2,383,961 Abnormal LUV $-0.100 -1.07% 5,158,228 42.56% 3,015,379 24.88% 2,142,849 Abnormal GPS $-0.300 -1.09% 3,443,517 41.14% 1,870,946 22.35% 1,572,571 Abnormal F $-0.380 -3.57% 12,656,094 31.84% 9,126,471 22.96% 3,529,623 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Thursday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows GE with 2,442,965 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.55000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
