Market Maker Surveillance Report. MET, MU, SLE, AMLN, FTNT, FIS, Bearishly Biased Price Friction For Thursday, May 31st 2012
May 31, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 3786 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2608 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3054 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. METLIFE, INC. (NYSE:MET), MICRON TECHNOLOGY INC (NASDAQ:MU), SARA LEE CORP (NYSE:SLE), AMYLIN PHARMACEUTICALS, INC. (NASDAQ:AMLN), Fortinet Inc (NASDAQ:FTNT), FIDELITY NATIONAL INFORMATION SERVICES, INC. (NYSE:FIS). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction MET $-0.400 -1.35% 11,649,897 51.34% 3,884,870 17.12% 7,765,027 Abnormal MU $-0.170 -2.87% 17,693,619 60.34% 11,574,946 39.47% 6,118,673 Abnormal SLE $-0.140 -0.68% 5,378,800 54.53% 1,637,630 16.60% 3,741,170 Abnormal AMLN $-0.890 -3.24% 6,976,947 63.63% 3,435,941 31.34% 3,541,006 Abnormal FTNT $-0.390 -1.79% 3,738,181 81.40% 852,485 18.56% 2,885,696 Abnormal FIS $-0.170 -0.52% 3,930,070 69.97% 649,703 11.57% 3,280,367 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Thursday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows MET with 7,765,027 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.40000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
