May 29, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 3708 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3773 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1983 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. WESTERN DIGITAL CORPORATION (NYSE:WDC), WASTE MANAGEMENT INC (NYSE:WM), RESEARCH IN MOTION (NASDAQ:RIMM), DOMINION RESOURCES, INC. (NYSE:D), Clearwire Corp (NASDAQ:CLWR), LORILLARD INC (NYSE:LO). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  WDC $-1.040 -3.04% 2,625,289 35.07% 1,802,580 24.08% 822,709 Abnormal
  WM $-0.010 -0.03% 7,664,371 66.77% 798,202 6.95% 6,866,169 Abnormal
  RIMM $-0.690 -6.27% 10,854,285 53.22% 9,503,030 46.60% 1,351,255 Abnormal
  D $-0.050 -0.10% 5,674,165 80.58% 526,600 7.48% 5,147,565 Abnormal
  CLWR $-0.030 -2.48% 4,727,551 57.21% 3,521,937 42.62% 1,205,614 Abnormal
  LO $-0.070 -0.06% 2,219,780 47.74% 301,154 6.48% 1,918,626 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Tuesday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows WDC with 822,709 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-1.04000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
