May 24, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 3854 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2786 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2760 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. SARA LEE CORP (NYSE:SLE), SPRINT NEXTEL CORP (NYSE:S), PPL CORPORATION (NYSE:PPL), CORNING INC (NYSE:GLW), ALEXION PHARMACEUTICALS INC (NASDAQ:ALXN), ALCATEL-LUCENT-SPONSORED ADR (NYSE:ALU). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  SLE $0.170 0.82% 3,289,027 25.09% 5,390,961 41.13% -2,101,934 Abnormal
  S $0.090 3.66% 12,915,990 31.15% 19,063,809 45.98% -6,147,819 Abnormal
  PPL $0.390 1.44% 1,659,172 24.93% 3,794,698 57.03% -2,135,526 Abnormal
  GLW $0.040 0.31% 5,512,749 25.44% 10,147,274 46.82% -4,634,525 Abnormal
  ALXN $2.080 2.30% 4,325,528 26.34% 12,082,324 73.57% -7,756,796 Abnormal
  ALU $0.030 1.91% 9,737,827 29.06% 11,931,516 35.61% -2,193,689 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Thursday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows SLE with 2,101,934 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.17000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
