Market Maker Surveillance Report. QPSA, SCHN, SMT, RENN, GNK, SVVC, Losing Stocks With Lowest Price Friction For Friday, May 1
May 18, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 3695 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1573 companies with positive Friction Factors and 4370 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Friday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. QUEPASA CORP (AMEX:QPSA), Schnitzer Steel Industries Inc (NASDAQ:SCHN), SMART TECHNOLOGIES INC - A (NASDAQ:SMT), RENAISSANCE CAP GR (NYSE:RENN), GENCO SHIPPING & TRADING LIMITED (NYSE:GNK), (NASDAQ:SVVC). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction QPSA $-0.710 -18.16% 1,035,815 32.58% 1,087,884 34.22% -52,069 -733 SCHN $-6.140 -18.99% 1,068,833 48.46% 1,112,255 50.43% -43,422 -71 SMT $-0.490 -25.13% 422,063 39.43% 647,652 60.50% -225,589 -4,604 RENN $-1.270 -20.35% 9,776,321 30.13% 12,073,860 37.21% -2,297,539 -18,091 GNK $-0.600 -17.14% 835,349 28.84% 842,411 29.09% -7,062 -118 SVVC $-7.550 -28.17% 1,194,299 45.71% 1,353,455 51.80% -159,156 -211Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows QPSA with a dollar loss Friday of $-0.71000 and a Friction Factor of -733 shares. That means that it only took 733 more shares of selling than buying to move QPSA lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
