May 7, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Monday there were 3801 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2741 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2957 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Monday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. MEMSIC INC (NASDAQ:MEMS), Tempur Pedic International Inc (NYSE:TPX), TUTOR PERINI CORP (NYSE:TPC), TRAVELCENTERS OF AMERICA LLC (AMEX:TA), Clearwire Corp (NASDAQ:CLWR), OSAGE EXPLORATION & DEVELOPM (OTCBB:OEDV). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  MEMS $-0.590 -12.94% 163,429 46.63% 182,367 52.03% -18,938 -321
  TPX $-8.530 -15.04% 5,387,684 27.47% 5,410,964 27.59% -23,280 -27
  TPC $-2.090 -14.50% 349,579 31.02% 360,152 31.96% -10,573 -51
  TA $-0.940 -15.41% 341,543 31.15% 405,565 36.99% -64,022 -681
  CLWR $-0.210 -13.82% 9,030,060 42.54% 12,140,005 57.19% -3,109,945 -148,093
  OEDV $-0.280 -13.53% 119,158 23.36% 156,909 30.76% -37,751 -1,348
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows MEMS with a dollar loss Monday of $-0.59000 and a Friction Factor of -321 shares. That means that it only took 321 more shares of selling than buying to move MEMS lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
