April 27, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 3782 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3566 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2150 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Friday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. NANOMETRICS INC (NASDAQ:NANO), TESSCO TECHNOLOGIES INCORPORATED (NASDAQ:TESS), Maxwell Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:MXWL), BRIGHTPOINT INC (NASDAQ:CELL), TeleCommunication Systems Inc (NASDAQ:TSYS), PETROMINERALES LTD (OTC:PMGLF). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction NANO $-2.540 -13.34% 843,794 47.11% 943,115 52.66% -99,321 -391 TESS $-6.530 -26.67% 177,946 39.00% 259,154 56.80% -81,208 -124 MXWL $-6.190 -39.18% 3,407,269 47.05% 3,645,905 50.34% -238,636 -386 CELL $-0.960 -13.71% 1,191,510 40.31% 1,751,118 59.25% -559,608 -5,829 TSYS $-0.590 -21.87% 1,164,069 45.87% 1,372,898 54.09% -208,829 -3,539 PMGLF $-3.050 -17.58% 32,250 21.76% 37,570 25.35% -5,320 -17Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows NANO with a dollar loss Friday of $-2.54000 and a Friction Factor of -391 shares. That means that it only took 391 more shares of selling than buying to move NANO lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
